Daisy Newton (b. 2000) is a deaf artist based in Manchester, UK. Primarily resolved in text, her art practice is based on her deafness, particularly language and communication. Inspired from everyday scenarios and stereotypical questions. Involving humour.

 

Working with a variety of paper mediums to explore obstruction mechanisms such as blocking, layering and reducing to gain a visual complication to replicate what its like to be deaf. Specifically, background noise. Throughout her practice, Newton found comfort within her work, on how she was almost the only one who fully understands the constructed layers artwork without any fault. Relating to her daily struggles to listen and concentrate on what every individual is saying verbally.
